Our Tech

Delivering precision medicine diagnostics at the point-of-care

Viroforge’s VPLEXTM family of assays exploit the latest lab-on-a-chip technologies to automate multiple, complex laboratory techniques in a small, affordable and convenient format.

Microfluidics

Microfluidic technologies support multistep diagnostic tests with reagents added, washed-away or separated with automated timing control. By manipulating reagents on the microscale, effects such as rapid heating and mixing can be exploited. The microfluidics are housed in a fully sealed cassette, allowing waste to be minimized, and exposure to possibly dangerous biohazards to be eliminated.

Multiplexing

It is often biologically informative to measure more than one target biomarker. Quantifying multiple targets using traditional technologies requires running several assay workflows in parallel; this is time consuming, increases the risk of error, and the required sample volume scales with the number of analytes measured. A single panel in the VPLEXTM cassettes supports the characterization of up to 150 analytes using a novel, quantitative microarrayed fluorescence diagnostic technology.

Multi-Panel Formats

The Viroforge VPLEXTM cassettes support multiple independent assay panels, each with its own micropatterned chip, microfluidics and multiplexing capabilities. This geometry not only increases the number of analytes that can be measured, it also allows multiple characterization formats in a single test. For example, the VPLEXTM Coronaforge test includes two independent tests: a multiplex total antibody panel and a novel multiplex neutralizing antibody panel, that together provide a uniquely sophisticated characterization of the adaptive immune response to COVID-19, all using the same fingerstick whole blood sample.

Sensitive and Specific Measurements

For all VPLEXTM assays, the sensitivity and specificity of any individual biomarker measurement approaches that of the best clinical laboratory tools. The assays also support the characterization of large numbers of targets with every test, allowing insights about antibody specificity and cross-reactivity that would otherwise be out-of-reach.

Quantitative Results

The only way to compare results from test to test, and from testing platform to testing platform, is with carefully characterized, quantitative data. All VPLEXTM assays include signal and assay calibrants and output quantitative results according to US and international standards.

Machine Learning

The enormity and complexity of the data collected demands automated pattern recognition through machine learning. Many human diseases involve a complex interplay of changes that occur dynamically and vary from patient to patient. The ability to collect large datasets related to medical treatments supports rigorous, outcomes-based medicine, with detection, diagnosis and treatment strategies that can be continuously adapted to individual and environmental differences.
